Seeking Campaign Canvassers &
Various Campaign Positions

The Texas Organizing Project is looking for energetic, visionary individuals who want to organize people in their communities and be part of an historic campaign.

Be a part of bettering your community and Texas!  The Texas Organizing Project will be running some of the largest grassroots campaigns in the State's history during the fall 2012 Presidential Election. This three month campaign will seek to increase voter turnout among Latino and African-American voters in Harris, Dallas and Hidalgo Counties.  

TOP Ed Fund is a statewide organization of seasoned community organizers working with low-income and working class families across Texas to make positive changes on issues of importance in these communities. These issues include housing, schools, neighborhood improvements, and increased voter participation, and TOP Ed Fund will tackle them through grassroots community organizing. 

All positions are temporary and will run from Aug 19st- Nov 6th.   Between Aug 19th and Oct 20th Team members will work approximately 30 hours a week.   Beginning Oct 21th through Nov 6th Team member will work daily and will be required to work more hours- up to 42 hours a week. Project hours are subject to change as necessary. We have open positions in Houston, Dallas and Hidalgo County.

Canvasser Job responsibilities: Canvassers will do door to door canvassing, talking to voters about community issues and the importance of voting with the goal of increasing voter turnout among African-American and Latino voters. Canvassers will be responsible for updating voter contact information (phones, emails, etc), will invite residents to participating in community events and will be responsible for managing their turf and reporting numbers daily to their supervisor.

We are looking for individuals who are articulate, organized and self-disciplined, with a passion for social and economic justice and creating change in their community. Volunteer or community organizing is a plus but not necessary. 

Shift times are 6 hours each shift, with 4 continuous hours spent knocking on doors.  Pay will be $10/hour. Canvassers will be given gas cards to cover mileage. Canvassers are responsible for getting to, from, and around in the field daily.  We are seeking English-speaking and bilingual Spanish and English canvassers.

Phone Banker Job Responsibilities: Phone bankers will be responsible for talking to voters on the phones daily about community issues and the importance of voting with the goal of increasing voter turnout among African-American and Latino voters. Phone bankers will be responsible for collecting updated voter information (phones, emails, etc) and getting commitments from voters to participate in community events. They will be responsible for tracking data and reporting numbers to their supervisor daily.

Data Entry team member

Accurately and efficiently enter walk and call data 

Familiarity with online data base systems

Data Entry shifts are 5 hours each shift.  Pay will be $9/hour

 

Administrative team member

Accurately record personal employee information and hours

Review and correct employment applications and paperwork

Assist Canvass and Phone bank teams in preparing materials

Administrative shifts are 5 hours each shift.  Pay will be $9/hour.   Administrative staff should speak, read, and write in both English and Spanish.
